Adult Relational and Creative Arts Therapy

I am a creative arts therapist and offer adult therapy—using an integrative, holistic approach which aims to support you in whatever you bring to our work together.

Sessions take place in my therapy space in Bovey Tracey which offers access to a range of creative mediums and alongside talking, gives opportunity to use drawing, image-making, sand play, movement, music, writing or guided imagination when this feels helpful. There is never any pressure to be creative; together, we will find a way of working that feels right for you.

A relational approach

A key to therapy and counselling is the relationship between the therapist and the client. It can feel a huge step to take to reach out, to ask for support and this requires courage. You will be met with warmth, sensitivity and respect, and we will work collaboratively in a way that feels right for you.

Whatever you bring, we gently explore it together—whether that includes relationships, emotions, past or present experiences, self-esteem, or questions about who you are. At a pace that feels comfortable for you, sessions offer warm, accepting space where your story can be heard, understood and held.

Why use creativity?

My experience in primary education has shown me the power of creative process to express what we can not say in words. I offer Sandplay therapy, a process which works at a deep level in the psyche and allows aspects which are not fully understood to be experienced and expressed.

You do not need to be artistic or have any creative experience. When words are hard to find, a colour, shape, image, object or story may help you express yourself in a different way. Creative exploration can offer a fresh perspective, reveal connections and bring hidden strengths into view. You are always in control: any invitation can be adapted or declined, and you decide what your creations mean to you.

What sessions may involve

Each session, of an hour is shaped around your needs, your pace and what feels manageable. You may talk throughout, move between conversation and a creative activity, or reflect on something you have made. Together, we can explore present concerns, earlier experiences, relationships, identity, loss, life changes or questions of meaning. We will check in regularly so that therapy continues to feel supportive, purposeful and safe.

How it may help

Therapy may help you understand yourself more deeply, make sense of difficult experiences and respond to yourself with greater kindness. It can support more fulfilling relationships, a stronger sense of choice, and new ways to cope and express what matters to you. This approach can be especially helpful if talking alone does not always feel enough—and you do not need to think of yourself as creative to take part.

I initially started my therapeutic journey as a play therapist, after leaving my 35-year teaching career. I now work creatively with young people and am looking forward to extending my work with adults as I believe the creative approach offers huge potential for growth and change and for us as humans to gain insight into ourselves.

I regularly attend CDP and support other therapists in my role as supervisor of creative arts therapies.

Please feel free to contact me for more information – I offer a free introductory session so we can feel what would be right for you and if we would be comfortable to work together.

Sessions are from £60, are an hour long and can be weekly or timed as needed.
